A note to document something that drove me crazy the last couple of days, but which had a simple solution. Maybe it will save work for someone else,
I installed Hardy in a new partition. Did not get sound; drivers not installed and I could not install them. I was about to return to Gutsy in frustration, after spending all too much time on it.
But I suddenly realized that Hardy booted to 'server' by default; 'generic' is a boot choice, but not featured. I tried booting to 'generic', and found my problems solved.
