How Do I Capture Video From The Net Please?

I'm runing Hardy now...what I need to know is how do I capture video's from online to save them to my hard drive? Some people do that with YouTube and post them on their blogs...but my vet was in a news story last night and I want to save the video from the story to my hard drive and then transfer it to CD..so my sister can watch them..

How do I save a video this way to hard drive from a website like the TV channels or YouTube?

Thanks! cheryl

This is a pretty good web-based version of what I believe you're looking for. If that doesn't work, try this:

There are several freeware programs to download YouTube videos to your hard drive. However, most of them will rip the video as a .flv file. Keep that in mind.

if you are using firefox get the downloadhelper addon for most flashbased and .mov, asf streams.
I say MOST not ALL there are some that it can't download for those if they are non flash use the mplayer mozilla plugin which allows you to save video to harddrive unlike the totem mozilla browser plugin.
For flash video that can't be downloaded with downloadhelper play the whole video then visit your tmp folder via nautilus a copy of the flash file is usally there easy enough to rightclick to copy it to your home folder.
