I've been trying to install Kubuntu Gutsy (x64 version). I keep getting a blank screen after the kernel loading stage during the boot process. I never get past that stage and there is no disc/drive activity after a minute or two.
My main reason to use Gutsy version is to be able to use LinuxMCE which is not compatible with Hardy.
I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop with Core 2 duo, Nvidia 8400MG GT graphics. I get the same problem if I try the safe graphics mode
I asked about this in Kubuntu forums, but two people (who clearly ignored the fact hat I cannot get past boot load stage) suggested to "sudo...." this or that after pressing ctrl + alt + f11. I cannot do any of these because they're rendered worthless, useless during boot process. Nothing happens.
I thought linux was supposed to "just works" as the motto says? What happened?
