One of the interesting things mentioned is the impending announcement of a 'Netbook Remix' version of Ubuntu for all these cheap ultra-portables coming out recently.

Coolcoolcool.

I just got my EeePC and I was hoping there would be an official Ubuntu for it, and now I'm happy :)

It will be very interesting to see what we're able to do with companies like Dell, which are aimed at a wider audience.

sounds like there might be discussions going on with other top oems :-)

Hmmm...Where is his X series?

What is that a Dell XPS?

Too bad Microsoft has already made their move to dominate that area.

I'm really happy with my eee, excellent build quality, incredibly portable.

If you don't want to wait for the official one, others have already got Ubuntu versons customised for the eee over at the eee user site.

Great news about an Ubuntu Netbook edition.

Since there are only a few netbooks (Asus Eee, HP Mini-Note, and a few others), there is no reason not to get hardware support perfect - simply by testing each one. Also, these netbooks are built to run Linux.

In fact, this is very close to convincing me to get a netbook myself, if it'll run Ubuntu well. I'll wait for the announcement early June to see how that goes, then decide.

I hope this Ubuntu notebook is below the $600 range, with a little more storage space than the eeePC. I'll gladly jump on the bandwagon.

This Guardian article was reproduced as a feature in my local newspaper (the Canberra Times, Fri 23 May) today - with a pic of sabdfl on the cover of the color lift-out. Two big color pics of Action Man Mark as an Astronaut accompany the article too. Pretty good free publicity in an IT-centric town!

BTW. I think the Ubuntu shop should consider selling a MS action figure with space accessories and a removable beard.

Regarding Ubuntu Netbook, here http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/10079892/Design_a_UMPC_to_counter_HPs_mininote_2133
Would be the best place to put it. We already have a partnership with Dell, so why not?

Ok, so is this "Ubuntu Netbook Remix" downloadable and installable in a tablet PC?

Try a google news search for Ubuntu remix. There's a lot lot of info appearing. It does sound like it's primarily aimed at hardware companies, to encourage the wider availability of pre-installed Ubuntu.

But I have no doubt it will spread backwards, so I will have a nic official Ubuntu for my eee! (eeeBuntu? Ooh Bunty?!?)

Is "Netbook Remix" different from MobileAndEmbedded?
