This post is about GUIs and is not specific to Ubuntu.
I am runing ubuntu 8.04

How do I open a terminal window
from the command line or using a shell script?
When creating this terminal window I also want to be able to
specify the following three things:

1) Its title.

2) Additional buttons to the 'File Edit View Terminal Tabs and Help'
buttons that execute a command such as:
'compile these files'
It would also be helpful to be able to add these buttons from within
the terminal window once it is open.
A particularly useful button would be one that executes the previously
executed command from the shell. Its label would of course be '!!'.

3) My own icon that would be displayed when
the window is shrunk to a button and moved
to the bottom of the screen.

In addition to being able to do this from the command line I would like
to be able to place an Icon on the desktop that I can double click on
to bring up the terminal window.
Alternatively, it would be useful if the terminal window could be shrunk
to an Icon on the desktop instead of (or in addition to) a button on the
bottom of the screen.

Any suggestions as to other features that I might want to add most welcome.
Anybody willing to help me get this to work is welcome to contact me.
Any recommendations as to alternative utilities already available
MOST welcome.
