Hi!

So lets say I wanted to buy a soundcard that WORKED in Linux, no problems easy of use, and has HD (Coax/Optical) output, supports 5.1 and is not made by Creative :D

Any Suggestions?

I'm just curious...have you jumped ship on Creative because of the thread on their forum?

i think the best place for you would be on mythtv. i dont know enough about soundcards, but i know several of the m-audio interfaces have working spdif under linux. they're probably overkill though. you'll be paying for features you wont use if you're using it for output only

many onboard sound cards already support 5.1 or 7.1

probably any would do, just get some good speaker system.
