I installed the xubuntu-desktop package earlier to give xfce a try.
The installation went fine and I logged out and logged in again and selected Xfce for the session. When prompted I chose the 'just this once' option rather than the option to make it the default.
Everything went fine for the first login.
When I logged out and in again I decided to set Xfce as the default when prompted at login. Since that time after loggin in I just get a black screen with a mouse pointer. No desktop, no panels, nothing. I have no choice but to re-boot X server and not use xfce.
Any ideas on what is going on here? I can still get into GNOME fine, and if I choose the Xclient session option it boots to GNOME.
PS - If there are any log files that would assist diagnosing this problem please let me know and I'll post em, I'm a bit of a noob with all the desktop environment stuff.
