View Full Version : [ubuntu] First Silverlight encounter - Moonlight on Firefox 3

May 21st, 2008, 01:24 AM
Yesterday I had my first encounter with Microsoft's Silverlight on Canada's "The Comedy Network" - http://www.thecomedynetwork.ca/
Please bear in mind that you may not be able to watch video on this site if you're outside of Canada.
Not all of the videos on here are using Silverlight, but I think most of the newer ones are, such as Corner Gas and The Sarah Silverman Program (I checked those ones).
So, I'm using Ubuntu Hardy and Firefox 3, and as one may expect, Novell Moonlight 0.6 did not work! I got it here: http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/ but am being patient with the hope that Novell will come through soon.
I know it's early, but I should add that it didn't work on Firefox 2 either.
I will try this on a Windows machine soon enough.

Any thoughts on the future of Silverlight, Moonlight, and Firefox 3?

The best news is, I can still watch South Park!:)

I found the test Moonlight test site: http://go-mono.com/moonlight/MoonlightStatus.aspx

I actually got the Silverlight Comedy Central South Park episodes to play on Firefox 3.

1. install mplayer and the mozilla plug-in

sudo apt-get install mplayer mozilla-mplayer

2. when prompted, click on watch without installing Silverlight

PS-if it instantly stops, just press play again and it should work
