I've just installed ubuntu on my desktop, and the sound works on the front two speakers, but not on any of the other ones in my 5.1 setup. I have an audigy ls. I've done a lot of googling and nothing seems to help. Here's my aplay -l

I guess by the lack of replies I can assume that the audigy ls is not well supported by unbuntu? If so, what are some cards in the same price range that can ubuntu does support? I'd really like to get this sound thing working.

Try OSS4 before buying another card:

Ok, thanks for that suggestion. Using that guide for OSS got my rear speakers working, but I'm still having problems getting the center channel to work. Any ideas? Also, the OSS mixer is really baffling. The control labeled "vol" and "pcm" both controls only the volume of the rear speakers, and nothing controls only the front speakers. I've tried turning up every level control, and nothing on the subwoofer.

Here is my osstest output:

Sound subsystem and version: OSS 4.0 (b1015/200803240256) (0x00040003)

I'm also having similar troubles trying to get my sub working in a 2.1 setup on my Audigy 2.

I think there should be somewhere where you set the crossover frequency but I can't find it anywhere. :(

Please post if you get your sub to come to life. ;)

try, in System/prefs/sound, altering the "autodetect" option to ALSA for "sound playback" and "music & movies".
Fixed my 2.1 to 5.1 + full functioning sub tranaistion after upgrade to Hardy. This on an Audigy 2 card.

Nice, I'll give this a go. :) Right now I'm just using the rear outputs and the sub.
