Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am new to ubuntu (server version)

I was wanting to install the Ubuntu 8.04 server version on my old laptop (Pentium M 1.2 Ghz). The installation works fine, but when I try to boot, it complains that the "version of kernel 2.6.24 does not recognize this processor"

Does this mean that the server version can only be installed on actual server type machines and is not compatible for PC's or laptops?

Thanks

I'm afraid I don't know why your Pentium M is not recognized, but the short answer is "no", Server can be installed on anything Desktop can be, and some platforms that don't have enough resources to run Desktop will run Server OK.

Are you sure it is the Pentium M processor that's not recognized and not some other hardware? I'm not coming up with anything useful on Google for "kernel" and "does not recognize this processor"

Thanks jtrindle for your reply.

I'll try to install gutsy server to see if I face the problem or 8.04 dekstop. Maybe there is some other problem with the hardware.

Thanks much
