I've been trying to install x86_64 Hardy on a Dell E1705 laptop with an Intel Core2 Duo T2500. According to the BIOS and some Googling, the CPU supports 64bits. I, however, have been completely unable to get either the Live CD or the alternate CD to recognize that the CPU is 64bit. After clicking on English at the language option, then clicking Install, I consistently get a message that x86_64 requires a 64bit CPU (well, duh) and installation will not proceed.

Does anybody have a clue what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Intel T2500 is a Core Duo, not Core2 Duo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core
It is a 32-bit only processor.

If you have MS Windows, to confirm, try this tool.

If it says no for 64-bit, then sorry, you are out of luck. Just stick with Ubuntu 32-bit. :)

All I can say is, I'm dyslexic. Oh well, 32 bit works just fine.:KS

Thanks.
