I just installed the kde4 desktop to my Ubuntu 8.04.
Everything went smoothly until I wanted to shut down. I got no shutdown or restart buttons. I think they are meant to be there, as they are in Ubuntu.

Not to worry, worked out what I was doing wrong. Easy done when you are new to this world:)
