View Full Version : [ubuntu] {7.10-8.04} Banshee Not Playing

After a 7.10 to 8.04 upgrade Banshee no longer plays, MPLayer will play music, but Banshee will not play the files. When the play button is pushed it flips to the pause button as would be expected but the progress bar never moves and no audio is played. I've tried removing and with --purge from the command line and then reinstalling and still no luck, am I maybe missing a dependency that was broken during the upgrade??? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT: Also neither Totem nor Kaffeine are working in the same manner, hit the play button no audio and the progress bar never moves.

Try uninstalling it from Synaptics, then Re-install it again with Synaptics.

System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager then search for Banshee.
This could solve dependency problems if present.

That was the first step before I tried from command line with apt-get remove and then apt-get remove --purge. I also removed the .config/banshee directory in my home directory.

Try removing hidden Banshee directories in /home/~/ look in .gconfig/apps/ and .config then try reinstalling it again with Synaptics.

Done again... still no change.

Could you post your /etc/apt/sources.list. Maybe you're still using 7.04's repo.

Good so far and now I can't think of any possible solutions for Banshee :( Try googling for some solutions and when you find one, do post it here for others to use. Or try to wait for other responses, maybe, they know of a solution or experienced your situation. Goodluck.

Hahah well, I don't post a new thread unless Google leaves me empty. :(

The worst part is its not even just Banshee, like I said in my edit its affecting other media players as well....

I guess I'll do more Google whoring and see what I can find.

It's kind of a crappy idea, but usually reinstalling the os fixes these type of problems, although I would hate the thought of it too.

<edit> although I'm sure you've probably already thought of that.

Yeah I finally gave up and tried that a few days ago....same thing no fix.

I'm thinking I just need to buckle down and see if a hardware change is in order. I haven't bought a new sound card in years.
