In Ubuntu, when I hit shift/2 I get a quotation mark instead of an @sign. The quotation key gives the @ sign. Is there a way to fix this so the keyboard acts normal?

Also, are any or all of the windoze keyboard shortcuts available such as CTRL/C to copy or are there other variations of these shortcuts available for ubuntu?

Thank you for any help you can give.

System>Preferences>keyboard
select layouts tab
create a new selected layout and delete the old one

I would check System->Preferences->Keyboard->Layouts. It sounds like you are using a UK or European layout and not a US layout. Also, Ctrl-C/X/V should work like in windows except in the terminal where you'll need to use Shift-Ctrl-C/X/V because Ctrl-whatever has special meaning in a terminal.
