I am running Ubuntu 8.04, was a fresh install on a dell Laptop, with an ATI Radeon x1400. I am running Compiz. When I plug in the svideo cable to my tv and reboot, the window decorations disappear. Also, the taskbar does not show the current window and most keyboard shortcuts do not work.
For instance, when I open Firefox, it opens over the top taskbar, so I cannot see Applications, Places, the clock, etc. and the top bar with the minimize, maximize, and close button is not there. I cannot move the window, even if I hold alt and drag. Also, on the button, the taskbar is empty and does not show that Firefox is open, though it appears briefly when Firefox is starting and then vanishes. Alt+f2 will not open terminal, alt+f4 does not close, etc.
Things I have tried:
Making sure windows decorations are selected (they are)
running metacity in terminal (it says something like cannot find X display)
Reinstalling Gnome-panel
running compiz--replace

When I go to System>Preferences>Windows, it does not open with the error "Windows manager 'unknown' not registered a configuration tool."

Everything works fine and runs great when the svideo is not plugged in.
Just would like to get this fixed
