I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy from update manager, now I've lost the ability to play sound files (ogg, mp3, etc). I've checked the obvious like volume sliders and such, they seem fine.

Hardware = Creative Sound Blaster Audigy

Worked just fine with Gutsy, oh... I do have sound at the login only
And the login screen also now has a problem in that it's now too big and the user name / password box is off screen now :( I've tried some other login screens, still they are all too big.

My screen resolution is still the same as it was in Gutsy.

Not sure how to fix this,
Help Please.

So does sound jsut not work when you are trying to play files? Or does it never work? Test it in System > Preferences > Sound

Tested it in System > Preferences > Sound

nothing. (the sound works at login only)

from some of the other posts it seems that I'm not alone.

Hmmmm. I think I've fixed it.

I ran alasmixer in terminal and adjusted the volume settings.
It seems Hardy had reset them.

Funny cuz I thought I had check that using the sound GUI.
