I am currently using WinXP. Basic setup on two partitions. C:\ (OS only) and D:\ (Data). Both are NTFS. I am part of a Windows network all NTFS computers.
I would like to switch to Ubuntu but want to make sure it will do the work I need to be able to do, like use the Quickbooks accounting program.
I have bought a new Harddisk to install Ubuntu on.
Silly questions of the day:
1: I don't seem to be able to find any installation instructions????
2: will Ubuntu be able to read/write NTFS partions?
3: will I be able to use/share files across the Windoze network?
4: what is the best way to use things like Quickbooks where there is no Linux version available.

Sorry for appearing silly, but I really don't know what I am doing in this environment.

non dual booting see this: http://www.fsckin.com/2007/09/28/how-to-install-gutsy-gibbon-a-21-step-guide-for-technical-support/

2: will Ubuntu be able to read/write NTFS partions?
Yes

3: will I be able to use/share files across the Windoze network?
from what I understand you can set it up using samba, but someone else might know more about that then I do.

4: what is the best way to use things like Quickbooks where there is no Linux version available.
You maybe able to get it to work by using a program like wine or by finding a equivalent program like
http://www.sql-ledger.org/
Here is a list of linux equivalents:
