how's the situation in your country, town, etc..?

is it gaining popularity?.. or maybe no one heard about it, but you...

you can nominate a country (doesn't matter if you live there or not) either in percentage of population or on raw numbers.

i.e.:

In my country Dominican Republic, the percentage is very low, but it's gaining popularity.

Some senators are interested to get it in the government and public institutions.

Sadly in my tests, "not many" accept the standard Ubuntu/gnome layout (2 panels) to start with.

They'll only accept either 1 panel at the bottom or 1 panel + dock (because of the eye candy, usually awn)

Here in Venezuela, the government created a law for the migration to linux in the public administration, but so far the process has gone very slow. Also, not so many people know about free software and linux.

About the situation worldwide, I don't know how trusted this could be but this is what google trends came with: http://www.google.com/trends?q=linux

More people are searching specific distros.
EDIT: There are like 3 Linux users out of the 2000 people in my High School.

You mean dominicans are giving up their constitutional right to pirate whatever they want? Great! :)
Now we just need to dismantle the big computer guys in Santiago and Santo Domingo.

The government says many things (and elections are [were] today), but if this one is true then it's very likely a *nix career is coming to UASD, it's good to hear.

Yep, you're right. Maybe looking for one of the most popular distros, like Ubuntu? (link (http://www.google.com/trends?q=ubuntu)), or maybe it would be more accurate to search for the trends of a specific site like www.google.com/linux (I know there's a site that searches for websites trends, but I forgot which one is it :-?).

Well, it's a start.
At least the "cybercafe" trend was good for something, I hope they push hard in schools to get rid of the incompetent computer teachers.
Thanks for the links, I'll keep an eye on them.
