I have an Epson Stylus C88 that works out of the box with Ubuntu, Ive used it with my machines since 6.10. Can't say on the ink mileage tho, I guess it's fine.

Not to be a HP fanboy, but I'm really digging my HP Photosmart C1680 AIO, drivers work, shared between WinXP and linux machines..just love it. Ink? are there those that use less? maybe but the HP is not a drunken fool.

I'm using the HP PCS-1315xi all in one and it work fine in linux, scan and print. not a high end printer but works fine for me and doesn't seem to drink ink.

I'm thinking for driver support HP can't be beat.

Generally for HP printers, just plug'em in and they work. Most older epsons(a generation behind the current) work fine. Canon are ropey. Brother printers have debian drivers for download from the brother website, which work well.

Lexmark? Don't even think about it.

Business aimed printers generally work better than consumer ones.
