I don't know a whole lot of my desktop PC, but I do know a couple of specs:

Packard Bell
AMD Sempron 1.87 GHz (or something like that)
Originally had like 500 MB RAM
Broadcom wireless antenna thing
Screen is a 19" Medion Flat Pro (ooor something...)
NVidia...something

I tried hardy but it wouldn't recognize my screen to the correct resolution, no matter what I did

Is there any distro that will support these specs, or is ubuntu the best multi-supporting distro?

How much total ram do you now have and what nvidia do you have.
So far all I can say is debain or PClinuxOS2008.

Do they have liveCDs?

Hardy will probably run on the specs you listed, but you haven't provided too much detail. But, yes, PCLinuxOS has a live CD, as does Mepis and about 50 other distros.

You may still be able to get Ubuntu installed if you want it. But, if you want to try another distro and don't want to do too much fussing around with it, then definitely try PCLinuxOS or Mepis. They should both run fine for you. Go to Distrowatch.com and download any one of dozens of distros.
