Hello

I have an external NTFS USB hard drive that I would like to pull some backed up files off from my old Windows days. Is Ubuntu 8.04 capable of doing this on its own or do I need something extra such as ntfs_3g.

Many Thanks

Yes, Ubuntu could do that for you. All you have to do is mount your external ntfs USB drive.

Hardy 8.04 can read and write NTFS out of the box. My 500gb external is still in NTFS format and mounts automatically, provided it was safely removed last time it was unplugged.
