View Full Version : [all variants] Boot problems on USB pendrive installation

I wanted to try Linux on my HP Compaq 6710b, and I thought it would be nice to have it on a USB pendrive.

I followed the instruction on this page:

The installation of Ubuntu 8.04 seems to be successful and it boots OK until I enter my login and password. After that nothing more happens (blank screen)...
The situation is the same when I tried Linux Mint 5 Elyssa.
When trying Kubuntu 8.04 (KDE 4 Remix) I succeed to boot and login and it looks OK, but I can't seem to find and install programs (although the network is functioning).
However, if I install Mythbuntu 8.04 and then from the control panel select to install Ubuntu/Gnome desktop, it works fine. It boots into the MythTV UI every time, but if I exit that I seem to have a fully functioning Ubuntu where I can also find and install programs.
To me it seems strange that installing Ubuntu or Linux Mint doesn't work, since installing Mythbuntu and then Ubuntu/Gnome works.

Any ideas why?

what is the difference between those types of installations:
