Hi - I did a minimal network install of Hardy, which helped me with my goal of getting a super-quick boot. Is there any way of speeding the boot up even more - maybe by recompiling the kernel with fewer options? So long as the screen works, I have wired ethernet, and the USB ports work, I'm pretty much set. Look forward to your help! Cheers, Adam

Thank you! The first link I've not seen before and will try it out. The second I've investigated already and applies to those who installed the full Ubuntu - virtually all of the stuff he was switching off doesn't exist in the minimal install.

Anyone got any more ideas - is slimming down the kernel a pointless exercise? (Not frightened of doing that)
