Timeline of breezy, the last release:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BreezyReleaseSchedule

No doubt there will soon be this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperReleaseSchedule

Goals:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperDrake

Currently it shows all goals that were not met for breezy. The goals for dapper will be discussed at UbuntuBelowZero (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBelowZero) next week. To get an idea of what's coming, look here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBelowZero/BOFs).

For the big picture: Ubuntu normally releases a new version every 6 months, a few weeks after the new gnome version has been released.

First one was 4.10 (Warty Warthog)
Then there was 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog)
And now 5.10 (Breezy Badger)
And in 6 months 6.04 (Dapper Drake)

Yes I have used them all. Ask what you want to know. But there was no version 1, the version are in the form 'year.month', so the first version was 4.10 (October 2004).

You could make a page on the wiki about the history of Ubuntu, so others can add information as well.
