can anybody help me with rebuilding the kernels on ubuntu 7.10..i just want to be able to boot up fast..but i have no idea what to do or what to take out..if anybody knows how to do it and can help me out it would nice..thanks guys

How fast do you need to boot? Most of the time in the boot process is not do to the kernel. Have you tried using readahead? If not then take a look at:
