Hi everyone ..
I am trying to install ubuntu 4.10 in dual boot mode on a pc where xp is already installed.

1) Comp Specifics:
Pentium Core 2 Duo;
1 GB RAM;
160 GB Hard Drive

2) I have windows xp installed on my comp which i intend not to touch.

3) With help of GParted I created following partitions
primary /dev/sda1 48.8 GB ntfs (my windows xp resides here)
primary /dev/sda2 25.0 GB ext3
/dev/sda3 2.4 GB swap
/dev/sda4 72.7 GB fat32

4) Now i am trying to boot from Ubuntu cd but at "Partition disks"
screen Ubuntu does not detect any hard disk partitions.

ON "PARTITIONING METHOD" SCREEN IT ONLY SHOWS "MANUALLY EDIT
PARTITION TABLE" BUT DOES NOT LIST ANY HARD DISK PARTITION.

5) I am able to boot my windows though and its working properly.

My advice... Don't install version 4.10 as it is 3 1/2 years old and support for expired long ago. Get hold of the latest version (8.04) and try again. It's much, much better. Time flies.

I agree with wieman01, 4.10 is 4 years old. Besides, 8.10 has a cooler theme.

to add to that, hardware detection and support has greatly improved over the last few years.
