hi, i've been using ubuntu for a good year now and its been at least 6 months since i've fully switched over.

now im trying to reinstall windows xp on a 40gig partition to get a dual boot again, but even though i've formatted the partition to NTFS everytime i pop in the XP install disc it says it does not recognize a harddrive on my computer.

tried lurking but found nothing, can anyone help?

Interesting problem. Is it a full version CD of windows XP, or OEM or upgrade version?

Is the HDD a SATA drive? If so, try changing to compatibility or PATA or some other mode in the bios. Stock XP won't install on SATA and will give such error messages.

Make sure the partition is a primary partition. I don't think Windows likes to be on a logical partition.
