System Administration Functions in HH 8.04

Recently upgraded to 8.04 (via update manager) - with the following problems...

System > Administration - the following will not load:

Synaptic Package Manager (available via Terminal)
Hardware Drivers
Hardware Testing
Partition Editor
Firestarter
XServer-Xorg

Update Manger will load but "hangs" when I click Install Updates (been using Terminal commands to install updates so far). I have un-installed Update Manager and re-installed but with no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm still quite new to Ubuntu.

I have this exact same problem. Nay clues?

I was able to launch synaptic from the terminal and upgrade from there.
