I know that Hardy has fixed the crashing Firefox when combined with flash, but is there a way to fix the same problem for us refugees to Gutsy? For example, through a backport?

The only thing that was fixed was the problem with libflashsupport for PulseAudio. It's no longer a dependency of flashplugin-nonfree because it was causing excessive crashing. The main problem has not been fixed. Flash still freezes the browser for me.

What was the Fix? Hardy uses Fx 3 and probably a different version of Flash.

Perhaps you can manually install those packages?

I'm using Fx3b5, and I remember an update to flashplugin-nonfree just before the RC of Hardy that fixed flash crashing for me.
