Open source web apps?

Web apps like the services Google provide are really gaining popularity and i love them. Would Canonical have anything to benefit from creating open source web apps? How practical is the idea?

Well As far as i can see, Canonicals vision is to replace all desktops to OSS softwares instead of gaining Web market. Probably if mark decides, he can take a chance..
