View Full Version : [ubuntu] let's try this ...again

i have a dual boot with xp an ubuntu 7.10,there's pictures,video,and music files on my hardrive in the xp side that i want to bring over to the ubuntu side,but when i look in my desktop folder in ubuntu theres nothing. my question is how do i bring them into ubuntu?...thnx a bunch

They should be in "/Documents and Settings/<username>/" on the partition that has Win XP. You may have to mount the XP partition (though it should see this and mount it automatically i think.)

In Ubunti go to "Places" then "Computer" you should see 3-4 tiles there:

Floppy,
CD/DVD Rom,
Filesystem
and your
XP partition.

in the XP bit browse to "/Documents and Settings/<username>/" then copy/paste the "My Documents" to your Home folder..

when i go to places>computer...i only see host and filesystem

What happens if you click on "host"? does it mount?

it mounts but theres alot of files in there,when i click the one that says windows,there nothing that i recognize in there

Is there one called "Documents and Settings"? open this and then you should see folders. One should be called the same as your Windows username. This is where your "My Documents" are stored..
