Hi!

I've been trying for days now to install Ubuntu 8.04. It's very frustrating since it worked instantly on my friend's laptop but it just won't on my HP desktop. It boots and hangs.

I have located the boot problems to be ACPI related, since the installation is only accessed when typing any of acpi=off or pci=noacpi. But when I do access the install menu, the USB ports are shut down and I cannot access my mouse nor my keyboard.

Is there a way of shutting down ACPI yet keeping control of the USB ports? Also, will shutting ACPI down affect my computer in any negative way once Ubuntu is installed?

My desktop is a HP Pavilion with Pentium IV 3.6 GHz, Nvidia GeForce 7800GTX and 1.5 GiB RAM.

Thank you!
