Hi i'm trying ubuntu for the first time and trying to install mythtv as I got a TV card in my PC, however reading up on documnets in shows the MythTV folder with a "./" at the front
and mine does not have this.

What does th "./" represent?
and also how I can I easily change access to folder.

A
./folderName
just means that the folder is located in the current folder.

Basically in this case ./ means "in this folder"

"./" is often a preface to an executable file. It is not a directory at all.

Point to the instructions, and someone will try and explain.

Have you considered using mythbuntu instead? It's MythTV built on top of Ubuntu and makes it very easy to get MythTV working.
