View Full Version : [ubuntu] cant install ubuntu in core duo laptop

i cant install ubuntu in my laptop which specs are as below:

Core Duo T2400
1GB Ram
SIS Mirage 3 Graphics

the scenarios that i faced are as below

1. try to install ubuntu 7.10 for 32 bit - blank screen after selecting install in the boot screen
2. try to install ubuntu 7.10 for 32 bit alternate CD - blank screen after selecting install in the boot screen
3. try to install ubuntu 7.10 for 64 bit - a message shown "Your CPU does not support long mode. Use a 32bit distribution." after selecting install in the boot screen

4. try to install ubuntu 8.04 for 32 bit - blank screen after selecting install in the boot screen
5. try to install ubuntu 8.04 for 64 bit - a message shown "This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU."

being a linux n kernel newbie, this is the first time i encounter this problem, need help from you guys. thanx in advance..

Could you proceed in live mode and click the "install" icon? It might prompt some errors so we can find out what is going on

reburn and maybe redownload the 32bit ubuntu live cd and then chose "safe graphics mode" then click the install icon.

I have the same problem I get the:

This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i586 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

error too when installing it wont load the kernel.

Did you managed to boot from the live cd and checked the system, using programs, connect to the net and so on ,,,,?

Nope. When ever I
"try it out" or
"install"

I get the kernel error.
