Is it possible that the Ubuntu forums will clock up 50,000 members by the end of the year?

And, is it possible that the forums will have clocked up 500,000 posts by the end of the year.

Well done to Ryan and all the moderators; the high quality (subjective) of these forums are a key reason I am sticking with Ubuntu.

I think these forums will hit 50k by the end of this month, or shortly thereafter. The real telling story is how many users are active at any given time. I don't think any other distro forum comes close. That's quite a challenge to the fluent operation of these boards, and well managed at that...

At this very moment the counter reads:

(And welcome to pmjwales, I hope you enjoy your stay)

If the forums sustain 250 new members per day, there will be 50,000 within 10 days before the end of the month. Even at 100 per day this will be 50,000 well before the end of November.

My point is: these are big numbers in comparison with, say, linuxquestions or kernaltrap.

linuxquestions is comparable with roughly 4 times as many members and 4 times as many posts; but Ubuntu forum is basically covering 4(4-6) flavours of one distribution.

It also seems that threads are more likely to carry answers which would attract more members. I have noticed that other forums carry lower active member to guest ratios which might indicate that more guests join.

So, anyway, next dumb pointless question: can Ubuntu Forum hit 100,000 members before Dapper is released?

Probably, this will be the biggest Linux Forum ever made, but, most important: The best Linux Forum.

What makes it the best?

Could there be a prize for the 50,000th member?

First three Ubuntu Problems solved?

I've noticed that it seems to be getting too big...

Before, I could look for unanswered threads and get maybe one page of recent posts.

Right now the first page only covers the last hour.

So if you have a problem, it's actually less likely to be seen if it's more than a couple of hours old...

All the more reason for people to search before posting.

All the more reason for people to search before posting.

And for replies to include a link to where to find the answer, which is a good way to encourage searching.
