Has anyone built or knows how to build their own wireless router?

I could easily by a Linksys or Netgear for home, but I think I would get a little more satisfication, and understanding of routers, if I built my own. If not, does anyone want to start a project of builder your own wireless router?

i've considered it, but would only do it for fun and it certainly wouldn't replace my Linksys WRT54GL running DDWRT firmware. also, you'll be in need of a pc most likely and something like that is going to use more power than a consumer router.

but, if you're going to do it, keep us updated and don't forget the pics.

What I have no clue what I am doing so its going to be interesting. Anyone feel free to jump in anytime and say something.

So far I've come up with this:

Memory: 1GB Scan Disk

Ports:3 ports- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813998004

Antenna: Rosewell 2.4Ghz Antenna

Now I need something, i guess like a circuit board, to make everything work together. Any ideas?

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but this router will end up costing you more than a commercial one, and will probably work worse too. I would recommend against it, but its your choice.

If you do decide to pursue the DIY road, good luck!
