install help needed

I am new to the Ubuntu and linux in general. I have never installed linux before. I have a old Toshiba laptop, pent 1, 32 mg mem, cd rom, and a 2 gb hd, I know how to format in dos and all the windows type stuff, so i have fdisked and formatted drive already with dos 6.22. The cd i received from Ubuntu seems to be an overlay and just adds to a version of a window install. Is there a way to take the ubuntu cd i received and install it without any windows installed? i would like to have Dos which will have a xtree file system and Ubuntu as the main stand alone os (like windows but i want no windows on the machine)installed on the machine when finished. If this is possible please tell me how. any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time in reading this post.

First, I very much doubt any version of *buntu will run on that machine. You could try the minimal installation, but don't expect too much.
There are many light weight distros available, such as Puppy Linux or Damn Small Linux. Check out this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=575456.
If I understood correctly, you want to delete Windows from that computer. That's actually the easiest part, since all you need to do is format the partition it resides on. Gparted Live CD is a great tool for that.

Yes, that is very old hardware as mentioned above, so i wouldn't install ubuntu. Try Damn Small Linux or Puppy Linux if I were you. If you are feeling daring, just set your bios to start of the CD drive as the first boot device and boot up with the cd in the drive. Do the same thing if you are installing DSL are Puppy.
