Hello,

I just purchased the Kubuntu Hardy 64 DVD from here:

http://http://linuxcd.org/view_item.php?id_distro=235&PHPSESSID=
f40d5e1bf6a9443080ad89a712f42bd0&id_version=3102

I have the Kubuntu Gutsy 64 DVD and it has options for
live install, text mode install, command line install,
etc.. However this Hardy DVD has live and text but no
command line install, unless I am missing something.

The text mode install will still put KDE on correct?
All I want is a command line install, from there I use
Fluxbox. I do not wish to go through the hassle of
installing in text mode to find out it does put KDE on.

I don't understand why this disc does not have a
command line option. I was going to buy it from
Canonical but they don't have any Hardy DVDs. Is
Hardy not going over well, or just too new to be
carried by them? They have the CDs, but even they
are not alternate unless I missed something.

Also what is OEM install? Perhaps that is what I want?
So I guess my question is, will text mode install KDE
and if so, is there any way to do a command line install?
If not, is there somewhere else that I might buy a DVD that
actually has command line install? As I say, I thought the
point of the DVD was having both options, or all three
rather. That and of course the repositories.

I am sure I am just missing something here. Thanks for
any help.

I believe you'd use the server version if all you want is the commandline. You can install Fluxbox on top of that, and exchange the server kernel for the generic kernel if necessary.

Thank you for the reply. So I need to get another disc then, that's too bad but not that big of deal. Does anyone know why they stopped offering a command line install on the DVD though? And also what the OEM option is? Thank you.

Hello again,

I apologize, I made a hasty mistake and figured that I would share my findings in case anyone has the same problem another time.

The F4 key gives more install options, which I knew. However, it gives different options depending on what option you have highlighted. By that I mean that if you have the live install option selected and press F4 it will give more options regarding live install (which is what I originally did, not realizing that it had multiple effects). If you highlight text mode install instead and press F4 you then get the command line install option, which is what I need.

So it was just that they changed the menu style drastically and I missed something. Anyhow, good to know that the command line option still exists.

Okay, something has changed here. Thread Tools no longer has a mark as solved option. How then do I mark as solved?

you can just install the OS and then when you log in chose the fail safe seshon option and al you will have is a shell... and not load KDE
