HI,

I did an upgrade to 8.04. After the upgrade I am still seeing old kernels. Also, I am having problems with displays. I am wondering if there is a way to do a complete fresh install, but still preserve my home folder. I have a lot of data (200+ GB) that I do not want to lose.

Thanks,

jerry

You can do this:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/separatehome
The install Ubuntu, go Manual, choose the old partitions and choose /home, but DO NOT FORMAT IT.

Will this work if your drive is almost full?

As I read the instructions, the new home partition will overlie existing data. Is that correct?

No. You better abandon the idea. Save data and do a clean install.
