I am using a new 8.04 disk. It worked on another laptop so the disk itself should be fine. But when installing on an old Dony Vaio from Japan with a new hard drive I can get to the point where it wants me to select a city and time on the Step 2 "Where are you?" screen and it refuses to move forward. I can make the mouse arrow move around, but clicking, hitting enter etc. does not seem to make it react at all. Any suggestions on how I can continue with the install? THanks.

You cannot boot a Live CD with that RAM. Either get more memory or try Xubuntu Alternate CD.
