View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installation of 8.04 reboots

May 10th, 2008, 10:29 PM
I'm trying to install the latest version (8.04) of the Ubuntu Desktop edition. However, the installation reboots after some time. I have tried both the normal ISO and the alternate ISO.

For the normal ISO when I remove the quiet and splash option, the last thing I am able to see before the computer reboots is something with "Squashfs Version 3.3 ... Phillip Lougher".

With the alternate ISO I get to see the "scanning CD-ROM" progress bar before it reboots just as the progress bar reaches the end.

I tried adding the option acpi=off without any success and the SATA is set as native IDE in BIOS.

I also have an old Gentoo 2006.1 live CD which I'm able to boot without any problems.

I would be greatful if anyone could help with this problem.

My system consists of:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (780G chipset)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e
Memory: Kingstone 2GB
Hard drive: SATA Seagate Momentus 120 GB
CD player: Some old IDE 48x
