Hi all - I'm looking for some help.

I'm running 8.04, without compiz (blacklisted ATI video card, workrounds don't). I would like to get some of the window decoration effects that emerald provides, but am having trouble getting all the levels sorted out so that I can see what to try, and what won't get me anywhere.

In emerald (when I've been using compiz) I can alter window decoration properties using the emerald theme config manager.

I would have thought that my windows were being decorated by gwd (gnome window decorator - or is it window-decorator-gtk? - but in my compiz-less system there are no entries in

Configuration editor | apps | gwd

The corresponding metacity config entries don't seem to refer to windows and themes so much as to actions. The "compositing window" checkbox doesn't seem to alter anything, as far as I can see......

Is there any way to fine-tune window decorations using metacity? or whatever my system is actually using?

Any pointers, corrections to my thinking, ideas, or suggestions gratefully accepted.....
