For the longest time I've had a link in my sig that takes you to an excellent site where you can get some of your favourite videogame soundtracks. They're just rips from games, nothing nasty, and really only for fans. I've used the site for ages (even when I was in Windows) and I've never had anything malicious from them - no adware, virus's or crap. Yet try and get on the site today: http://gh.ffshrine.org/

I've removed it from my signature since I don't want people thinking I'm trying to do something horrible to their PC's. But this is very worrying. If you're going to block this site, why not block all the porn that goes around, and worse? Even typing the address in manually blocks me from accessing the site. I can't choose this site without StopBadWare (a Google partner) popping up.

I am absolutely disgusted and more than a little concerned. What's happening here?

EDIT: It seems typing the address into Opera brings it up just fine. Is this a FF issue? What have I missed here?

Hmmm. I still can't access it through Firefox, though I can with Opera. I don't understand it.

I disable the stop badware thing on my FF, because the AFL website (Australian rules football,) page was blocked. I have been using that page for years and years with IE and windows, and never had anything bad happen. I can access the page you posted (and it is awsome) this must be because I told Firefox to not care about stop badware.

hehe, load webpage
no
sudo load webpage
ok

lol

I found the option in preferences, and then security. Untick the first two boxes.

Excellent. I just unticked the "Tell me if the site I am visiting is a suspected attack site". I never thought that it could be one of these settings. Thanks for that.

Ah you're a gamer too! I love Twilight Princess. Currently playing through it on Wii, and I think it's way underrated by gamers. The whole reason I joined the website though, was to get the Shenmue 2 soundtrack. I don't know what it is about that music, but it just hits something in me. Phenomenal.

I've updated my sig again with my link. It refers to my profile, but I don't get money or anything. It just allows you to download without their usual limits.

Sorry for any alarm people. I was worried the thought police had marched into Google HQ. I'm all for blocking nastiness on the net, and was very surprised when my own sig took me there!

from badware.org

We have received and processed your request for review of your website, ffshrine.org/. It appears that your site does not currently host or distribute badware. As such, the Google warning page for your site has either already been removed or should be removed shortly. In addition, if your site has been listed in our Badware Website Clearinghouse, we will be removing your site from the Clearinghouse list.

Sometimes website owners are confused about why Google placed a warning in the search results for their site. In many cases, a website run by an innocent site owner has been hacked by a malicious third party, causing the site to distribute badware without the site owner's knowledge. If your site was distributing badware because it has been hacked, then simply removing the bad code from your site is not enough to keep your site clean in the future. You will also need to work with your hosting provider to fix all security vulnerabilities associated with your site.

Please note that we will be retesting your website at periodic intervals in order to monitor that it remains free from badware. If we find that you are hosting or distributing badware in the future, the reviews process may take considerably longer than the original review.

also do keep in mind the site in question was actually a subdomain, if someone on the whole domain might have caused error then the result was this, but as always good prevails over evil.

site is clear now

Whoa, that's both impressive and disturbing at the same time. I mean, someone policing what is "good" and "bad", which is subjective, can backfire. Look at China. Everyone's all for having some third party tell them what is and isn't safe to look at, until they find out they're freedom to choose has slowly slipped away.

EDIT:

What's the saying ... "the path to hell (or tyranny) is paved with good intentions". I just get a little nervous when some "consumer protection" group starts dictating what we should get exposed to. Their initial mission statement sounds admirable enough, but as they get more attention and clout, they could expand on that and maybe go directions people don't want them to go.

Obviously the site is deemed a security risk, on the other hand it just possibly doesn't meet any of Firefox's standards.

Yeah, I noticed that Galbadia Hotel was blocked when I tried to access it at school. All I wanted was the SSBB soundtrack, too (which they didn't have but I dunno about now)

in firefox
edit->preferences->security
untick "tell my if site is suspected attack site"

now you can visit the site, and let it attempt to do what ever nasty thing it tries to do.

how do you know that in all the time you visited the site before, you have not picked up some malware? the smart malware these days tries its best not to be noticed.

The Chinese government doesn't have a "To hell with your censorship; get out of my way and let me view that content" switch. This thing has a "Tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected attack site" switch. You can opt out of it entirely.

However, if it allowed exceptions per site, it would be much more useful.
