64 bit ubuntu instalation on core 2 duo

My first question is are core 2 duos 64 bit? My model is the 5500 in a 478 socket. All research to date says it is but I'm getting errors on installation of ubuntu. Can anyone confirm that 64 bit works on a core 2 duo.

Yep, 64bit (the image is called amd64) works fine on Core2 Duo. However, I have only run the live CD, but not installed it because of other messages on the forums. For now, I'm sticking with 32 bit.

FYI, the amd64 image will work for any EM64T capable intel processor.
