Hello,

I'm a complete newbie who is tired of paying out good money to microsoft. I have just ordered a Dell 1525N w/ Ubuntu 7.10 preinstalled. My question is: if I wanted to upgrade to 8.04, would the drivers/compatibility data inherent to the Dell laptop build be lost in the upgrade process, or would all of the necessary Dell Drivers remain? Do you recommend that I upgrade this, or should I leave it as-is?

Thanks very much for your help!

I'd leave it as it is. Wait until Dell comes up with 8.04 pre-installed.

If you have a recovery partition do the upgrade to 8.04 . you may face some wireless problems after the upgrade.

Thanks for the advice- I had 7.10 for about a week, got used to it a little, and switched to Hardy Heron. Using Wicd for the wireless, and it goes like a champ!
