Hey all,

Firstly, specs:
c2d 2Ghz
Asus p5k motherboard
750GB HDD *SATA*
Optical drive *IDE*
2gb ram

I've had this terrible issue for many weeks, and I've tried installing Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.04, 7.10, and 8.04 as well as with Suse 10.3. All give the same results-- i can't get into live/install because it hangs at an "initfs" console or hangs at initfs exceptions. In this console I can actually type commands and whatnot, too.

With unetbootin and a USB install, I was able to get into the live session normally! But once it rebooted, my computer acted like nothing ever changed (prompted me to "insert a bootable disk" or something to that effect).

I'm considering reformatting (again) and putting on XP so I can Wubi my way into Ubuntu.

Any input would be great!

Thanks,
Chowdy
