Well ive gone back to Windows XP for awhile because I coudlnt stay being without linux because I loved a game called www.warrock.net and I couldnt stand being without Office 2007 because lets face it, its better than openoffice. So I found this http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2008/03/office-2007-on-linux-with-wine-install.html and I think ill make the switch again but I want to know one thing. I know that 8.04 is out now but will Ubuntu be coming out with a newer version anytime soon, and I want to know what the default 8.04 desktop looks like because google images isnt much help. If anyone can help it will be apprecaited.

It has a cool background (see attatch) other then that it's like the other Ubuntus, also 8.04 just came out, it's quite bleeding edge if you ask me

Gnome is very customiseable once you know how to do it.
I have mine setup so the menubars are invisible and all menu text is white.

That theme doesn't exist. That's just someone's idea of what the theme should look like, made in GIMP. It wasn't ever actually made.

You will be able to customize it more than you ever thought. You can use other desktop environments like KDE and Xfce and Enlightenment.

You will be able to customize Compiz (if you have the hardware to run it) to do cool things.

Also check out gnome-look and other sites for cool themes.

Even better: You can change the background to whatever you like. Amazing, isn't it?

That's not real. However, you can change it so it looks like something similar.

I know that 8.04 is out now but will Ubuntu be coming out with a newer version anytime soonI believe the current release schedule would place the next release in October. Ubuntu follows a pretty regular release cycle of one release every six months. The last release was in April.

office 2007 is not "better" than openOffice 2.4 in the way you state it.

for me OOo 2.4 has enough features to satisfy anyone.

and OOo 3.0 will be big on features and it's already out in beta.

when am in windows i even prefer office 2003 rather then 07's interface (can't stand it)

but i guess it depends on what you're used to or if you need it because your work requires it (gladly thats not my case or most of whom i know).

so it may probably be "better" for you, but it doesn't mean is really "better" for everyone else.

"some" also find Vista better than XP (the vast majority doesn't) but i respect their opinions.

you're in good timing 8.04 LTS is just out. No new releases for 6 more months.

Every release has at least 18 month support and the LTS (long term support) is 3 years.

the new theme was pushed for next release since there was little time to implement all the changes.

but you can easily get cool themes at http://www.gnome-look.org/

anyway, we welcome you back and hope you enjoy your stay :)

ps. if you need to use windows, remember you can always dual-boot

Why not install Ubuntu using WUBI? You will still have XP, and Ubuntu will just be a few clicks away. If you can't get Ofice 2007 installed on Ubuntu, you can simply uninstall Ubuntu.

Google wubi for more info and the installer is on the Ubuntu 8.04 live cd.

OOo since 2.3 has opened MSOOXML files, and in 3.0 can write them as well, I believe.
