Everytime I try to play around with Ubuntu 8.04 or install it, I get to the Ubuntu progress bar. When it gets about 85% complete the computer freezes and my Cap locks and Scroll locks light flash together continuously. I have no idea why I am unable to run Ubuntu.

I have an AMD 64 bit 3700 HP computer. I was able to install Ubuntu from Windows, but unable to run the OS. I also tried to remove all of my HDs so there was only one dedicated HD for Ubuntu, but that failed as well.

Any help is appreciated since I want to convert and leave Microsoft for good.

What's the model's name? Could you give me a link to your specs?

You have to install with the Alternate CD.
Here are a few links on different kinds of HP:

If I install the 7.10 Alternate CD will I be able to upgrade to 8.04?

Sure. But upgrades are iffy.

I have found the 8.04 ALT CD and I installed it. The problem I am having now is thatI do not see Ubuntu as one of my options for Operating systems. Is there a command that I can add to the boot file in XP to place Ubuntu on the operating system option?

You have to install Grub to the MBR. The only method I know to change your boot.ini requires an Ubuntu Live CD. You can also boot your system with Super Grub:

Burn to disk and boot from it.

Ok. Now, I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 using the ALT CD on to my computer. The problem is the installation seemed to go fine, but the monitor goes blank after I reboot and pick Ubuntu from the operating system's list. It occurs after the Ubuntu progress meter reaches 100%. After that, the monitor is blank. What is the problem and what should I do?
