Hi.

I just upgraded an old Ubuntu Gibbon laptop to Heron and it's acting werid. I've done a lot of poking around and playing around on this machine and I'd like to do a clean install rather than the upgrade I already did.

How can I do a fresh install from the CD over Ubuntu?

One twist: I can't boot from my CD--the bios doesn't support booting from an external USB CD. Is there something I can run from the CD while under Ubuntu to get it started?

Thanks,

Andy-

Am, it's a long shot but you could try Smart Boot Manager
http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/about.html

Cheers, Pat.

I got it. Turns out I had to turn on "Legacy USB" support in the BIOS to be able to boot from the USB CD drive.

And Heron is much cleaner after the clean install. PowerTOP shows many fewer wakeups. Graphics are more responsive. Stability is better. WiFi setup easier. I just had a lot of crap in there.
