Hi all,

I love this forum very much, but that's not the point. ;-)

I have 4 virtual desktops, using firefox in 1st, emesene in 2nd and update manager in 3rd. The system was running very slow, so I thought that maybe I should decrease the number of virtual desktops running. So I shifted update manger window to the 2nd, right clicked at the virtual desktop situated at the bottom gnome panel right next to the trash icon and changed the preferences. Then hasta la vista! My trash icon disappeared. No matter how many trash icons I tried to put in, the icons just refuse to appear.

By the way I was running compiz at that time. I disabled compiz but the problem persists. Can anyone help me with this?

Wait, you DID say you tried re-adding the thrash applet to the panel? I would almost guess it to be a hardy bug in that case.

Yep, as in my trash icon went missing first. Then re-adding yields no results.

May not be helpful... Seems it is a 8.04 bug. I'll stay 7.10 for a bit longer :)
BTW - This info was found with a simple search for the term "trash" on the forums. Quite useful indeed...

Thanks a lot!

Oh dear, if restarting the system does solve the problem, think I will have almost 20 over trash icons to remove.

Thanks for the post!

That very same thing has happend to me a lot since switching to hardy. I don't know how to permently keep it from happening again but what I do is just restart my system and then poof it's back, along with all the other trash cans I added trying to get it back, that's the bad news, sorry.

No problem - I am sorry to hear thats the only work-around... The bug will probably be addressed in one of the next updates as it seems popular. :)

Same problem here, save that restarting does NOT bring the trash bin icon back. 20 trash icons? It's most likely 120 for me. LOL
